Principal photography is officially wrapped as of last night. For those who know of Guy Fawkes, this last day saw him being hung -- an actual event that took place some 399 years and a bunch of months ago. Filmed an hour north of London, it was recreated to its smallest detail. James McTeigue directed this window on 17th century dust and gallows pitch perfect. Nobles, corsets, and a crowd of ogling onlookers, the scene was terrifying in its reality. Thankfully, we no İ longer have public hangings with cheering crowds. Times change.

From Berlin to London.

The last moment of filming in Berlin took place late at night, with guns and wires and a crew that seemedİgenuinely sad to see this leg of production ending. This was a Wednesday with the production picking up in London on Friday, little rest for a very fast moving production. This first day was not a heavy day of filming, however, and nothing compared to what was ahead. On the following Tuesday, midnight to 5am, the production began filming on Whitehall, between Trafalgar square and Big Ben, and is, we're told, the first time a production of this scale has effectively camped out directly at the steps of the British parliament -- with cameras, tanks and over one hundredİintimidating,İif faux, militia; it was vast and a sight many did not think they would ever see.

Photos appeared on Friday in the British press, of course. Considering this was a particularly public space there were tons of mobile phones, cameras and even video cameras pointing in all directions.

More than once we heard, "What the 'ell?"

Here's why.


We are right now quickly coming to the end of principal photography.İThis is the last week, in fact.

Filming continues today withİa train pulling out of a London station, filled with something other than passengers.

From the Shadow Gallery to theİParliament to a train running beneath London, the end is nigh.

Right this moment V is telling Evey who he is. They are in the Shadow Gallery.

For those who do not know, V FOR VENDETTA is filming in Berlin, Germany. That's where this update is being written, just behind stage 2, the Shadow Gallery, here at Studio Babelsberg.

It is a historic location, the very place where Fritz Lang filmed his epic METROPOLIS, Marlene Dietrich starred in THE BLUE ANGEL, and Alfred Hitchcock in 1924 -- one year before he directed his first film in England, THE PLEASURE GARDEN -- worked as an art director and second unit director on the film DIE PRINZESSIN UND DER GEIGER (THE PRINCESS AND THE VIOLIN).

V FOR VENDETTA is set for a November 4th release, the very weekend the 400th anniversary of Guy Fawkes is celebrated (November 5th, of course -- but for those unfamiliar, history lesson to come).

The director James McTeigue has been painstakingly scrutinizing the concepts of V for months. It shows on set.

We get asked a lot of questions around these parts. Besides when is the box set releasing (December 7th), the question asked most often remains: what are Larry and Andy Wachowski are up to next, post Matrix. Well, for starters, they have established their own comic book company, BURLYMAN ENTERTAINMENT.

The first title, due in November, is DOC FRANKENSTEIN, which the Brothers Wachowski are writing. It is being illustrated by THE MATRIX TRILOGY Key Storyboard Artist Steve Skroce (Spider-Man, Wolverine).

This 32 page full color comic will come out bi-monthly from November.

In December, we release our second ongoing bi-monthly series from BURLYMAN ENTERTAINMENT, THE SHAOLIN COWBOY. This one is both illustrated and written by none other than the Conceptual Designer on all three MATRIX films, Geof Darrow (HARD BOILED, BIG GUY AND RUSTY THE BOY ROBOT). Larry and Andy will be writing an intro (of sorts) to each bi-monthly title.

This 32 page full color comic will come out bi-monthly from December.





Also in December, get ready for THE MATRIX COMICS: VOLUME TWO. This volume includes work by Michael Oeming, Poppy Z. Brite, Paul Chadwick, Dave Dorman, Kaare Andrews, Keron Grant, Jason Keith, Ted Mckeever, Tim Sale, Bill Sienkiewicz, Steve Skroce, among others.

In fact, here's something no one has seen yet, a panel from Kaare Andrews' story. Be prepared for 13 more pages from Andrews, covering many of the main characters from the films.

Hear it today, an online conversation between Larry Wachowski and Ken Wilber! Larry Wachowski needs little introduction (at least here at the official site). Ken Wilber is a philosopher, author, and, of particular interest to Matrix fans, an active participant in the forthcoming 10 disc box set of THE MATRIX TRILOGY. Not too long ago, Ken sat down with Cornel West (philosopher, author, and actor -- RELOADED and REVOLUTIONS: Councillor West), and recorded over sixteen hours of audio commentary on all three films (which will be edited down to approximately six hours for the box set). This slightly shorter conversation between Larry and Ken (clocking in at just over 30 minutes) was recorded just days before the exhaustive 16 hour commentaries and is a relaxed yet intellectually rich dialogue between two intensely well spoken blokes. Just over an hour ago, Larry and Andy Wachowski, Joel Silver,  Keanu Reeves, and Jada Pinkett Smith found themselves in a theater in Shinjuku, Tokyo, introducing the film to a crowd of thousands. This was twenty minutes before the film was to start, because at the actual moment, on a platform outside the theater, a counter ticked off the seconds. Raining, with a sea of Matrix code umbrellas dotting the crowd, Joel announced the weather fitting, considering the Super Burly Brawl in the film.

At the moment of reckoning, lights flooded the surrounding area, soap bubbles and green tinsel confetti poured down, and inside the theater, the film began. Right now, in over 20,000 theaters, in over 100 territories around the world, people are watching the third and final chapter in the Matrix trilogy.

Updates are underway here at the site, but considering everyone should be in a theater about now, maybe we'll wait a beat...

Plus, some news on THE MATRIX COMICS collection. This past weekend, we traveled to the printer for a press check on the cover. The results? The art is crisp and the color bright. Books begin shipping in just about a week.

Wasn't there a free comic preview for this? How do I get one?

We gave out a free single story comic (Paul Chadwick's THE MILLER'S TALE) at the San Diego comic con in August to announce the forthcoming collection. This was a limited run of 15,000 copies. Most were gone in a single afternoon. Of course, they can be found (as of this writing) on Ebay for ranges between $3 and $7.

Did we give them all out?

No.

How come?

We intentionally held a number of these books back to give away with pre-orders of THE MATRIX COMICS collection. Until we run out, all pre-orders of THE MATRIX COMICS will get one copy of this preview book for free. This includes anyone who has already ordered, of course. On one hand, there's something slightly uncool about seeing comics that have long been available for free on the ''Matrix'' website now being published for real cash money. On the other hand, have you ever been e-mailed a JPEG that was just so entertaining you had to print it out? Same idea. And certainly, the dozen short stories collected in ''The Matrix Comics: Volume One'' deserve glossy, hard-copy treatment. Just as the recent ''Animatrix'' DVD seems to be more about the Wachowski brothers' love of their concept than of a buck, so too does this material have a creatively jazzed feel.

Getting back to their comics-writing roots, the Wachowskis team with detail-fixated artist Geof Darrow, one of the films' conceptual designers, on the anthology's opener: a back-story look at a robo-butler's bloody revolt and subsequent day in court. Another standout is a characteristically offbeat tale from writer-artist Paul Chadwick (''Concrete'') chronicling humanity's life-affirming struggle to grow wheat for bread, scorched earth and mechanized oppressors be damned. And acclaimed fantasy writer Neil Gaiman (''The Sandman'') contributes an illustrated prose piece that imagines machines dominating not only the planet but a nice little chunk of outer space
as well.

Some of the material is stronger artistically than conceptually and vice versa, but there isn't a dud in the bunch. Pretty impressive, considering how comics publishers have historically given movie tie-ins the ugly-stepkid treatment. In this case, you can actually be glad that ''The Matrix'' has you.
