OK, we've got TV spots. How close are we until the release of the theatrical trailer?

You can see it in theaters this weekend.

Any sooner?

Television gets it tomorrow.

Will it be at the official site?

Yes.

Will it be high res?

Of course. We're encoding from 2K source files, which is the resolution of the trailer in theaters; in short, we're drawing on as clear and high resolution an image as exists.

What is the length?

Longer than the three TV spots combined.

So you liked the fight between Neo and Seraph? If you want to see the location of that fight in a little more detail, click here for a QuickTime VR of the Tea House. Not to mention a few other newly added locations, covering the Rerouting Facility and the Sub Metro. These and others can be found in the QTVR section.

Also launching today, the virtual Nebuchadnezzar assembly kit. Fashioned after Japanese model kits, but on the computer in true 3D, snap the pieces off the simulated-plastic sprues and rotate the parts until they are in position to click together. While many have already found this hidden via a hex code, today sees it officially in the arcade section of the site. Once built, rotate the ship, fire the guns, turn on the lights, power up the pods, and download images of the ship from any angle to your computer. It takes a fairly fast computer, so those with old machines are advised to proceed with caution (minimum recommended computer specs are listed on the download pages within).

Also, if you speak Japanese, read the latest batch of freshly translated interviews, here. Though if you are in Japan, you're likely on the way out the door to the cinema, as THE MATRIX: RELOADED opens there today. Don't stress. The interviews will remain, along with yet more.

Of course as the second film opens in this final stop on its global rollout, it might interest some that THE MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS is due November 5th, worldwide. The clock is ticking.

For those still needing a fix of THE MATRIX: RELOADED, see it in select IMAX theaters starting this weekend.

For those who haven't yet heard, beyond the currently released console and computer game, ENTER THE MATRIX, there is another game in the works. Unlike the current game, this next one is a Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMORPG), playable by thousands of people simultaneously. For those not familiar with this type of computer based game, everything within this shared environment will evolve as people interact with it. Is this a Matrix within a Matrix? Or simply a game simulating the Matrix? Good question.

May 16, 2003----------------------------

Our update yesterday was rather well received, with some one million visitors clicking through twenty-two million pages. If you didn't visit yesterday, scroll down to see a bunch of new links.

For those still hungry, here's more.

The production for THE MATRIX: RELOADED/REVOLUTIONS, with filming on two continents, ran for longer than most films, over one year of principal photography. The majority of films are shot within three months. Hundreds of crew and dozens of departments made these sequels possible.

It is not unusual for the head of departments to create keepsakes for their respective crew members. For THE MATRIX: RELOADED/REVOLUTIONS, nearly one hundred items were produced by all the various departments in both the United States and Australia. This is a massive amount, and suggests, for the vast majority of the crew, this was far more than a job. There is no union rule about crew swag. All of these items were produced as a means to remember working on a project few wanted to leave.

With roughly 250 photos -- and simply because many of these items are too cool not to be seen -- here is THE MATRIX: RELOADED/REVOLUTIONS:

Crew Swag

While talking of the hard working crew, our introductions continue. This latest collection of interviews delineates the difference between a "grip" and "key grip", why safety is not something to trifle with when you have over nine hundred extras on a man-made set, as well as many more details straight from the filming itself.

Chris Moseley: 'B' Camera Operator

Dave Childers: Key Grip
Philip Ho: Grip
Cory Schmidt: Rigging Grip
Steven Anderson: Makeup Artist
Steve Condiotti: Gaffer
Butch West: Construction Coordinator
Charlie Moulton: Choreographer
Michael Cole: Dancer
Capt. J. Michael Edwards: Alameda Fire Marshall

Also updated are these past interviews (new text in red):

James McTeigue: 1st Assistant Director
Kim Marks: Second Unit Director of Photography, USA
Steven Buckingham: Assistant Cameraman, USA
David Ellis: 2nd Unit Director, USA
Peter Robb-King: Department Head, Make-Up

Another addition to the site is a new option on the front page. To make it easier to browse the ever growing content, we've introduced a "lite" version. This will reduce load time for computers with slower internet connections. Yes, it really is about choice.

We've also launched some of the international sites:

Brazilian
Danish
Finnish
French
German
Italian
Japanese
Korean
Netherlands
Portuguese

We still can't believe that after four years, the first of two sequels is finally seeing release. REVOLUTIONS is not that far off. Not really. November 5th. If the past few years is any indication, blink, and you'll be watching THE MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS. In the meantime, THE MATRIX: RELOADED is a lot to take in. Do it responsibly.

To the weekend.

April 28th, 2003

It seems you can't turn around without bumping into a new Matrix trailer. Many film trailers traditionally show all the "best" bits, leaving little new to be seen in the film itself. For those that have braved seeing them all, have you seen everything? Do you really need us to tell you the answer? Some have been heard saying, "So we've heard about the VFX, seen glimpses, but will there be any 'noodle baking' scenes? Yes. In spades. If you have to ask what a "noodle baking" scene is, it is best you do not download the trailers. Go to your local rental shop, ASAP, and see THE MATRIX. Or, wait in front of your FOX affiliate approximately two weeks (quickly turning the TV off when the trailers air).

Did we mention there is enough material in THE MATRIX: RELOADED to support yet more than is currently released? Good, because the number of trailers are growing, daily, and they are in full assault-mode rotation on numerous television stations. Fast cuts and faster glimpses of things yet not seen are tauntingly found in each of the numerous spots. Should you see them? No. The best way to see THE MATRIX: RELOADED is cold, with no pre-knowledge (besides, of course, the small underground '99 film, THE MATRIX).

However, if you're here, you have likely already seen the spots. Or are looking for them. The choice remains yours. See "NO ESCAPE" here.

By checking out our download page for the new trailer, regulars might notice one item missing from the list of options. On Thursday, we quietly 0x98765432 pre-released an ultra sized version of the trailer. Many hundreds of thousands of downloads later, we're offering it now for general release.

Not for old computers, this file is nearly 100MB and has a resolution that far surpasses DVD. Pulled right off the editing Avid, this 1000x540, 24 frames a second, progressive version of the trailer is easily among the highest resolutions being offered for download anywhere. Have you seen this version yet? Can you handle it? Download it here (but please note the warning before downloading, as this is not for anything but the strongest of machines).

Since putting the new trailer up this weekend, the servers have truly been put to task, passing over 40 terabytes (the equivalent of roughly eight million mp3's). The new trailer alone saw over one and half million downloads. This is an unbelievable amount of data. Amazingly, the servers held.

The weekend also saw a dramatic rise in the number of magazine covers.

By reading back in the news, you'll see we will be offering for download the first of four free Animatrix episodes in February. Many have suggested that a month is far too long and that we should be more specific. After all, February could mean nearly March. We're happy to report that this would be impossible, as in March, they'll be another episode to download. THE 2ND RENAISSANCE: PART ONE is coming early in the month. How early?
